These Terms of Service govern your use of FamilyStorystead. By accepting these Terms, you agree to use the app in accordance with the conditions described below.
1. Acceptance of These Terms
You must accept these Terms before using FamilyStorystead for the first time. Material future Terms updates may require renewed acceptance. If you do not accept, do not continue using the app.
2. About FamilyStorystead
FamilyStorystead is designed to help users preserve family memories, written stories, photographs, authentic audio, personal history, and family archives. The current version is local-first and does not require an account or provide automatic FamilyStorystead cloud synchronization.
3. Eligibility and Use of the Service
You are responsible for using the service lawfully and for determining whether you have authority to preserve or share particular information.
4. Your Content
You retain ownership of content you create or add. FamilyStorystead does not take ownership merely because content is stored in the app.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to store, record, import, export, or share that content. Exporting or sharing may make content accessible to recipients and third-party services outside your control.
5. Privacy
The FamilyStorystead Privacy Policy explains how the current app stores, exports, shares, and deletes information. Review that policy before accepting these Terms.
6. Recording and Sharing Other People
You are responsible for obtaining any permission or consent required by applicable law before recording, photographing, preserving, or sharing another person or their information. Recording and privacy laws vary by jurisdiction, particularly for audio recordings. FamilyStorystead does not provide legal advice.
7. Backups and Data Loss
The current app stores vault data locally. Create Complete Vault Backups regularly and keep valid copies somewhere safe outside the app. Deleting the app, user deletion, device loss, device failure, corruption, or a platform reset may cause data loss. FamilyStorystead cannot guarantee recovery without a valid external backup.
8. Exports, Shared Files, and Third-Party Applications
You control when a Printable Family Archive (PDF), Family Memory Book (EPUB), Complete Vault Backup, Vault Update, Memory Invitation, or Memory Contribution is exported or shared.
Once a file leaves the app, the receiving person, application, storage provider, or service controls its copy. FamilyStorystead cannot control what recipients do with exported information.
9. Memory Invitations, Contributions, and Vault Updates
A Memory Invitation asks someone to create a new memory. A Memory Contribution returns requested content for review. A Vault Update transfers selected existing content between vaults. You are responsible for deciding what to request, return, import, approve, or share.
10. Acceptable Use
Use FamilyStorystead responsibly and do not misuse the service.
- Do not use it for illegal activity, harassment, fraud, unauthorized access, or deliberate corruption or abuse of the service.
- Do not falsely impersonate another person or create deceptive synthetic family testimony, voice cloning, or deceptive simulation of a deceased relative.
- Do not store, upload, import, or share content that you have no right to use.
11. Intellectual Property
Your content remains yours. FamilyStorystead branding, software, interface, logos, and original app materials remain protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership of the FamilyStorystead software or brand.
12. Availability and Changes to the Service
Features may change, contain errors, become unavailable, or be modified or discontinued. Device, operating-system, file-format, and third-party compatibility may change over time. Permanent or uninterrupted support is not promised.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided on an “as available” basis without a guarantee of uninterrupted operation, preservation, recovery, or fitness for a particular purpose.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, FamilyStorystead is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, including loss of locally stored content.
15. Indemnification
You are responsible for claims resulting from your unlawful use of the service, content you had no right to use, or a material violation of these Terms.
16. Termination
You may stop using the app at any time and may delete local data through the provided controls. The product may discontinue or restrict service where legally appropriate. External backups and previously shared files remain under the control of you and their receiving services.
17. Changes to These Terms
These Terms may be updated as the product or legal requirements change. A material required-version change may require renewed acceptance. The effective date and version displayed above identify the current Terms.
18. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
19. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain effective to the extent permitted by applicable law.
20. Entire Agreement
These Terms and the Privacy Policy form the agreement governing use of the app, together with any additional terms presented for a specific feature.
